AHSL Description for Grant Proposals and Statistical Summary (2011-2012)
Departments needing a library description to include in their proposals are welcome to cut and paste from the following:
The University of Arizona Health Sciences Library (AHSL) is the largest academic health sciences library in Arizona. AHSL's primary clientele are the UA Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health, and UA Health Network. In 2007, AHSL opened a second facility in Phoenix to support the UA College of Medicine and other colleges developing programs on the Phoenix Biomedical Campus.
AHSL provides electronic access to vast stores of biomedical literature. Library faculty, located onsite in each college, consult with students and serve as instructors for classes taught in the curriculum, and work with researchers and clinicians on complex questions and on projects to improve access to essential information. Library facilities provide computer labs, modest print collections, and a variety of comfortable spaces for small group collaboration and quiet studying in a collegial atmosphere.
AHSL is active statewide, working with unaffiliated health professionals and public and tribal libraries, health departments, and community groups to improve access to high-quality health information. Equipping Arizonans with effective health information seeking skills is important to improved health for everyone in our state. AHSL is a member of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine/National Library of Medicine and serves as the designated resource library for all of Arizona.
AHSL is a founding member of the Arizona Health Information Network, Inc (AZHIN).
