AHSL Spending Reduction Proposed Cuts

The Arizona Health Sciences Library (AHSL) is preparing for the possibility of a drastic (almost 50%) cut in funds for library resources for academic, clinical and research support in fiscal 2010.  The University of Arizona Libraries’ (UAL), which has a separate budget, is also expecting a major cut in their collections budget.  As a first step, AHSL has included 105 titles in the UAL list of nearly 1,500 serial titles under consideration for cancellation.

The AHSL titles in this list amount to about $50,000 and represent only the beginning of the title losses that will occur if the AHSL budget cut is at the 50% level.  The additional cancellations will be determined in a later phase as consortial arrangements for packages like ScienceDirect are considered for license renewal.

Timeline:

  Jan 26-Mar 16, 2009  Library solicits feedback
Mar 31-Aug 31, 2009   Cancellation decisions will begin on Mar 31 for time-sensitive renewals and will be completed by August 31.
Sept, 2009  Final decisions completed and the campus community is notified.

To review the proposed titles to be cancelled, you may use the links below to see only the AHSL titles or view the entire UAL list. Most of the AHSL titles will fall in the ‘R’ section when the entire UAL list is sorted by call number (click on the column heading to sort).  When the list is sorted by subject, the AHSL titles will fall primarily in the categories of Medicine and Life Sciences. Please make your comments on specific titles using the feedback link on the survey.
