AHSL Express Retrieval & Recalls

Use the Library Catalog to request books, videos, DVD and CDs to be retrieved from the AHSL shelves and held at the Information Desk for pick up.  UA faculty, staff and students must have a valid CatCard and library account in good standing.

Use AHSL DocOrder to request that an article or book chapter be scanned from a print journal or book and delivered to your DocOrder account in PDF format.  See also:  Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery


Submit requests through the Library Catalog

  • Search the Library Catalog for the item you want.

  • At the Search Results page, click on the title to access the full record.

  • Take careful note of the location; you will need to pick the item up at the library listed in the location.

  • Click the Recall or Express Retrieval button at the top or bottom of the screen.

  • You will be prompted to log into My Library Account with your NetID.

  • Select the item you want and click on Request Selected Item.

  • Some items are not eligible for Express Retrieval; see restrictions.
     

Pick up materials from AHSL

  • Library staff will retrieve the requested items located at AHSL within 24 hours and hold them at the Information Desk for pick up during the library's hours of operation. Please refer to the schedule below for turnaround  times.

  • You will receive a notice in your University email when your material is ready to be picked up or you may log into My Account to find out the status.

  • An item is held for pick up for 7 days and then reshelved.

  • If additional holds have been placed on the item, it can only be checked out for 7 days.

  • If you have requested items from the UA Libraries (Main, Science & Engineering and Fine Arts), you must pick up the material at those libraries or use DocOrder to have AHSL obtain them for you.  Materials are not transported between libraries.  See UAL Express Retrieval.

Canceled requests

We will send you a cancellation notice via email if the requested item cannot be located and has been declared missing. You may use DocOrder (Interlibrary Loan) to order from another library.
 

Restrictions

A total of up to 5 books, videos, DVDs and CDs may be checked out per day. Items must be listed as "IN LIBRARY" in the catalog. The following materials may not be checked out:

  • Journal volumes less than 10 years old

  • Microforms

  • Reference & Ready Reference materials

  • InfoDesk & Reserve items (books & videos)

  • Special Collections 
     

Recall a checked-out item

  • If the item you want is checked out, use the Library Catalog to recall the item.

    • Click the Recall or Express Retrieval button at the top or bottom of the screen.

    • You are prompted to log into your library account with your NetID.

    • Select the item you want and click on Request Selected Item.

  • When you recall an item, you will receive an e-mail is sent when the item becomes available.

  • If you have an item which has been recalled, you will receive an email stating that the item has been recalled along with a new due date for the return of the item.  The due date is calculated as10 days after the date the recall was placed.

  • Materials requested for Course Reserves are subject to immediate recall. 

  • Items are held for 7 days after being returned. If an item has additional holds, it can only be checked-out for 7 days.

  • Failure to return recalled materials by the new due date indicated on the recall notice will result in a suspension of borrowing privileges.

  •  Some items may not be recalled and the recall function is not available for those items.
